The beaches
Rocky outcrops, calm bays and broad sweeps of fine sand form the country's Atlantic coast. Agadir is its most established resort, set beside a 10 km stretch of superb golden sand beach ¿ where various watersports are available.

Places to see
Don't miss Marrakech with its mosques and markets, maze of alleyways and lively 'Place of the Dead' square. Easy-going Essaouira is a pretty fishing port of whitewashed, blueshuttered houses. And the towns of Taroudant, Tafraout and Tiznit are within easy reach for a day trip.
Other impressive sites include Marche Municipal which is in the centre of Agadir, this is the main market, it isn¿t very cheap, but it is nice to stroll around and Souk 'El Had' which is a walled market place with many shops and stalls, this is worth a visit if you are wanting to haggle for a bargain.
The Folk Art Museum in Agadir was created in 1992, within the municipal theatre complex, this museum offers a collection presenting the folk arts and traditions of the Souss Valley. Agadir's only historic site is the Kasbah an 18th Century fortress which is situated on a hill that overlooks the town and has great views of the resort.

Eating out
Savoury couscous comes with egg, chicken or vegetables as a staple local dish. Djaja mahamara (chicken with almond and raisin stuffing), and tajine (lamb) and hout (fish) stews are all very tasty specialities. And among the lip-licking sweet pastries, try kab-el-ghzal. The national drink is mint tea and local wines and beers are inexpensive.

Shopping
Coopartim' (price controlled) shops sell locally handcrafted goods with a certificate of authenticity. Souks and stalls sell similar things at very flexible prices... depending on your haggling expertise! Best local buys include leather, copper and silverware, wool rugs, carpets and blankets.

Nightlife
Casinos, bars, disco's and nightclubs add up to a varied night scene - with a little of everything in Agadir, including belly dancing shows. Some hotels also host a variety of entertainment from disco to folklore.

Getting around
There are regular (and very cheap) rail services between Marrakech and Casablanca - should you decide to take a couple of days out of the resort. You can buy tickets in advance for local buses - which are also cheap and frequent, but very often crowded. Car Hire could be an advantage for independent discovery.
